I just picked up another Emagic AMT 8 to replicate my home setup at the church we play for.

Problem is, it isn't behaving like my home studio one where if I play a keyboad into port 8, all the leds light up on all the out ports. The second one doesn't do this.

I can't remember if there was ever a patch facility - I just want all ins to go to all outs.

This happens when not connected to a computer.

Update - Ooops - now I've messed the home studio one up too - I read somewhere that if I hold the panic button at power up it resets it. Well - it has - now that one is the same as the church one. Rats..

HELP!

Update - well, I start Logic up at home and it goes back to the same behaviour - with all the out LEDs flashing. SO I'm guessing that's actually what was happenning on the church one. I remember something about the AMT8 switching modes when a DAW was active. Probably working as designed and I hadn't noticed - it's buried away where I don't notice it. Sorry to bother you all.I'll try the power on / panic tomorrow.

Nope - tried that. With no computer connected the AMT8 just isn't acting as a hub. It should surely replicate any midi in on all midi outs right? I don't have the manual - is there a setup program that would sort this?

You can use AMS (Audio MIDI Setup utility - in the OSX Utilities folder) to set basic I/O routing for the AMT/Unitor.

Logic will use the AMS settings by default - although you can obviously override this with Logic's prefs/project settings and the Environment.

This is the original manual:

Thanks for those pointers. It occurs to me now that I have never set up an AMT-8 patch in my life! I guess that I've relied on Logic to do all the routing or my (used) 1st AMT-8 was setup with a patch that just sent all ins to all outs.
Can I ask a silly question? I'd like to be able to use my midi stuff without booting up my Mac. Is it possible for me to run the Unitor 8 Control program still? I still have my old Logic 5 PC setup and see that there is such a *.exe program that might be downloadable. I don't think I have the original CD but am about to rummage through my old boxes just in case.
(I've just acquired a Line 6 Echo Pro and would like to be able to route some control midi to it for live use).

Thanks for your help Osc

Yep, you can use it without booting the computer.
By default, this will be a straight in (one or multiple) to all outs - except the matching port - config.
To clarify - port 1 in will send data to ports 2 thru 8, port 2 in will send to port 1 and ports 3-8, a.s.o.

You can use the U8 Control app to create a different routing - and the unit will remember this "patch" when powered down - basically, the most recent config is stored in non-volatile memory in the unit itself.

When you use it with the computer on - the "patch" mode is bypassed - and the app (Logic) or AMS routing is used.

Re: the U8 Control app - I'm pretty sure that this uses a proprietary method of programming "patches" in the unit - and obviously the app doesn't exist on OSX - but it might be an interesting experiment to try using AMS to set up an alternate routing - and see if the unit retains this with the computer turned off.
I doubt it will work - but it might be worth a few minutes of your time....as this would save booting up the PC/U8 Control app.

Aha - that default looks like what I'm getting with no computer. I tried fiddling with AMS yesterday but didn't get anywhere. I'll have another shot tomorrow.

Do you happen to know if the U8 Control exe file is available anywhere just in case? Seems liek a lot of the Emagic stuff is no more :-( Happy days!

Just watching an Oz vet show - Rain Shadow or something - nice banjo music! Coo it looks dry over there (SA) :(
